Tour Plan

Day 1 : Marrakech - Essaouira

You will start this charming two-day tour between Marrakech and Essaouira when your driver will come to pick you up at your riad in Marrakech at 8:30 am, on board of a comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle. Arriving in Essaouira, you will walk along hills where almost all the trees are argan. You can stop to photograph the goats that climb into the branches of the argan trees to devour their leaves and nuts. This is a reality and not just an urban legend.

You can visit a women’s cooperative offering argan products. You will discover exactly how the oil is extracted from almonds and transformed into various derived products. This oil is used as a beauty product for skin and hair care, but it also finds delicious culinary applications. Taste argan oil with fresh Moroccan bread accompanied by a glass of mint tea – a culinary moment in Morocco. The quality is higher than most exported products and the price much more affordable; if you want to bring home some, it’s a great opportunity.

Upon your arrival in Essaouira, this bustling port city with its famous blue boats offers you a fascinating and unique experience. And since you’ll probably be feeling a bit peckish after your morning drive, it’s here that you can choose from a selection of freshly caught fish at this lively fish market, just a few metres from where the day’s catch was landed. Your fish will be prepared before your eyes for this delicious lunch, alongside other local diners.

In the afternoon, retrace your steps a little for a visit of the coastal ramparts. These imposing fortifications were built by the Portuguese and you can still see many of the guns that were used to defend the city. Visit the Skala and the fortified walls, which served as the setting for the famous TV series Game of Thrones, as well as the opening of Orson Welles' production of Hamlet. Later in the afternoon, we suggest you enjoy a walk of several kilometers along the beach of Mogador, either on the beach itself or on the wide promenade that runs along it. It is also possible to try horseback riding or maybe a camel ride at sunset. Essaouira is a windy coastal town, making it an ideal destination for surfers and kitesurfers. If you are a water sports enthusiast, then you have come to the right place. Ask the local schools on the beach to rent a board: all necessary equipment can be rented on site.

Enjoy a well-deserved dinner in one of the countless restaurants in the heart of this charming city and spend the night in a beautiful riad of Essaouira, lulled by the cry of seagulls.

Day 2 : Essaouira - Marrakech

After breakfast in your riad, you will still have time to continue your exploration of the historic walled medina of Essaouira and its panoramic views. The medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been the setting for many famous films, such as Oliver Reed’s version of Hamlet and scenes from Game of Thrones. This makes it a particularly interesting place to discover during your holidays in Morocco.
What better way to get to know Essaouira better than to stroll through the fortified alleys of the medina and photograph its old whitewashed houses? Most of these houses have wooden shutters painted a characteristic blue that makes this city so unique.
If you walk through the markets of the medina, full of local craftsmen selling wooden objects and unusual metal items, you will find great memories for yourself or to offer to your loved ones.
In the heart of this charming city, you will find a wide variety of restaurants for lunch: you will be spoilt for choice. If you are tired of the medina at that time, head to the beach to relax for a while. Sip a glass of mint tea in one of the many cafes overlooking the sea.
In the afternoon, you take the road back to Marrakech. The journey takes you through the plains of Haouz to the village of Chichaoua, where you can stop for a tea or coffee break, overlooking the surrounding countryside.
Your 2-day tour from Marrakech to Essaouira ends around 6:00 pm, when your driver takes you back to your hotel.
